Cathedral Cove

A lone dancer graces the entrance to Cathedral Cove, Te Whanganui-A-Hei Marine Reserve, Coromandel Peninsula, New Zealand. Cathedral Cove is named after the cave located there, linking Mare's Leg Cove to Cathedral Cove. The Māori name Te Whanganui-A-Hei (the Great Bay of Hei) refers to Hei, a tohunga from the Te Arawa waka.

It has an enviable international reputation for producing the best Sauvignon Blanc in the world. It also makes very good Chardonnay, Riesling and high quality Pinot Noir. There are over twenty thousand hectares of grapes the region that account for approximately 2/3 of New Zealand’s wine plantings.

The path in front of you

Sometimes in life the path in front of you seems endless and steep. The illusion of both the past and the future while seductive are simply distractions from the earth in front of your feet and the people around you. The reality is one has no clue what will happen tomorrow; life, it seems, is just a series of random events retrospectively categorised into a sense of order. Complicated, simple, happy, sad. Mitre Peak

A dusting of summer snow and a whisper of cloud is all that is left after a 24 hour storm. Mitre Peak, or Rahotu in Māori, rises 1690m (5,560ft) from the water of the sound. The peak is named after the distinctive shape of mitre headwear worn by Christian bishops. Milford Sound or Piopiotahi , technically a fjord, is located in the south west of New Zealand's South Island, within Fiordland National Park. One of the worlds highest mean annual rainfalls of 6,412 mm (252 in) each year makes mornings like this even more special. Te Wahipounamu World Heritage Site, New Zealand

Routeburn River Suspension Bridge

A cold wet shot of the Routeburn swing suspension bridge. The bridge, about 100 feet long, spans the fast moving Routeburn river seen here in rising floodwaters . We were lucky to get out after over 200mm of rain in 24 hours. The hikers who left the next day were stranded for 3 days when the bridge went under. The Routburn track is usually completed by starting on the Queenstown side of the Southern Alps, at the northern end of Lake Wakatipu, and finishing on the Te Anau side, at the Divide. The track covers two National Parks; the Mount Aspiring National Park and Fiordland National Parks. South Island, New Zealand

Kepler Rainbow

A rainbow throws up one last defiant challenge to the fading light of a stormy dusk. Taken near Luxmore Hut which sits above the alpine snow line at 1085m (3560 ft) on the Kepler Track. Kepler Mountains, Fiordlands National Park, South Island, New Zealand.

TSS Earnslaw

The sole remaining commercial passenger-carrying coal-fired steamship in the southern hemisphere crossing Lake Wakatipu. An Edwardian steamship built in 1912, the TSS Earnslaw is a 1912 vintage twin screw steamer. South Island, New Zealand.

Stirling Falls

Sitting between Elephant and Lion Mountains, the glacier fed Stirling Falls drops 146 metres from a hanging valley. The second largest permanent waterfall in the fjord it was named after Captain Stirling who in 1870 led the HMS Cleo into Milford Sound.
