Kalmand Iran

Desolate looking faming areas in the sandy valley floor provide a stark contrast with the arid mountains surrounding it. The mountains in the background form the Kalmand Protected Area located in Yazd Province, Iran. This arid area ranges from 1,200 to 3,000m in altitude and gets less than 200mm of rain.

Damavand Iran

Lar Dam Mt Damavand

It is located in the Alborz range to the North East of Tehran and south of the Caspian Sea. Persian River Valley

A lonely road cuts across an ancient Persian river valley surrounded by mountains near the Kalmand Protected Area located in Yazd Province, Iran. This arid area ranges from 1,200 to 3,000m in altitude and gets less than 200mm of rain but it thought to have been much wetter during the first half of the Holocene between 5,000 to 10,000 years ago.
