Snow has arrived in the Rockies and a young moose calf starts to experience its first taste of winter. Moose are the largest of the deer family by some margin; they stand up to 2.1 m (6.9 ft) high at the shoulder and the males can weigh up to 700kg. I have also included a shot of its mother. Winter conditions were still holding on in the Rockies when I took this shot of a couple of Rams who were no doubt dreaming of warmer conditions and spring pasture. The horns of bighorn sheep (ovis canadensis) rams can weigh up to 14 kg (30 lb), while the sheep themselves weigh up to 140 kg (300 lb). Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada
A 2nd shot of the small cascade in the south western end of Maligne Lake. It’s a testimony to how brutal the winters are up here high in the Rockies that not even moss seems to be growing on these falls. I have only seen one picture of this waterfall up on the web and it was named as Teardrop Falls but my GPS for this spot does not correspond with where Teardrop Falls or Pin Cushion Point is on the map so I assume it’s another unnamed fall. If you know the name of the falls please send me a message. Jasper National Park. Alberta, Canada
