Hard not to love summer in the Canadian Rockies. Spent a beautiful weekend floating in the crisp clear glacial fed waters of Annette Lake. I must say the temperature contrast between summer and winter is hard to fathom as an Australian. When were were up at this lake last winter it was a good 70 deg C (126 deg F) colder than this summer day. Jasper National Park, Alberta. Canada
Still about 140 fires burning in BC and more in Alberta with a lot of smoke drifting across the Rockies at the moment. The laminar nature of the smoke mixed with scattered cloud does however make for some beautiful light beams over the mountains. Jasper National Park, Alberta. Canada
Looking into the eye during a G3 Geomagnetic Storm at Ness Lake. The purple glow is created by oxygen atoms at an altitude of between 200–500 km (120-300miles) colliding in a high energy state and emitting red light at 630 nm. In contrast the more lower level green aurora are oxygen atoms at a lower altitude of 70-200km (40-120 miles) and lower energy state emitting light at 557.7 nm.
