Fresh powder snow dampens sound in a way that has to be experienced before you really understand it. The sense of quiet comes from the high porosity of loosely packed crystals of freshly fallen snow which trap sound waves. The shot was taken on Hudson Bay Mountain just outside of Smithers in Northern British Columbia, Canada.
A moose wanders though the first snow of the season in the Rockies. Moose are the largest of the deer family by some margin; they stand up to 2.1 m (6.9 ft) high at the shoulder and the males can weigh up to 700kg. I have also included a shot of its mother. Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada

The park is included in the landmark treaty, the “Nisga’a Final Agreement”, between the Government of Canada and the Nisga’a Nation.
