A man sits in quiet contemplation within the interior splendour of the Notre-Dame Basilica, Montreal, Canada. Constructed between 1824 and 1879 the basilica's gothic revival architecture is among the most dramatic in the world. The stained glass windows along the walls of the sanctuary do not depict biblical scenes, but rather scenes from the religious history of Montreal. The basilica was constructed on the site of the original parish church of Notre-Dame which was built in 1672.
