Baiame Cave

The aboriginal art of this cave are believed by the Wonnarua Aboriginal people to be a painting of Baiame, a legendary ancestor and the maker of all things. After Baiame journeyed amongst the people and having imparted to them knowledge, lore and ceremony, he returned to the sky, stepping up from Mt Yengo nearby (hence its flattened summit). In Australian Aboriginal mythology Baiame (Baayami or Baayama) Baiame is the creator spirit of the Dreaming of the Aboriginal peoples of South-Eastern Australia, including the Wonnarua, Wiradjuri, Darkinjung, Awabakal, Worimi and Kamilaroi. Ness Lake Fall

Fall has came and faded from Ness Lake in a period of about 14 days. It seems impossible to tell the peak in colours until after is has passed, so you just have to continually shoot though it. I never appreciated how short this season is, and how beautiful, until moving to Canada. Australia has almost no native deciduous tress which change colour, although it does have other bursts of colour like the Wattle wildflower season. Northern British Columbia, Canada.

Norah Head Lighthouse

Norah Head lighthouse on dusk. The light house was turned on for the first time in 1903 and eventually de-manned in 1994 after more than 90 years of being staffed. It was originally fitted with a vapourized kerosene lamp and was electrified in 1961. Designed by Charles Assinder Harding it was the last lighthouse ever to be built in the classical style of James Barnet. Harding also designed the lights at Cape Byron and Point Perpendicular.

Pyramid of Khafre

The first built and last standing of the original wonders of the world, the Great Pyramids of Giza remained the tallest human structures for 3800 years. The Pyramid of Khafre (or Chephren) seen here was built around 2570 BC (4587 years ago) to a height of 143.5 m (471 ft). Originally covered by casing stones that formed a smooth polished white outer surface made of Tura limestone; what is seen today is the underlying core structure after the valuable outer stones were loosened by earthquakes and robbed reducing the height to 136.4 metres (448 ft). It is unknown when the casing stones were removed however they were still in place in 1646 AD when John Greaves, professor of Astronomy at Oxford University visited and wrote Pyramidographia. It was built as the tomb of the Fourth-Dynasty pharaoh Khafre (Chefren), who ruled from c. 2558 to 2532 BC. Shot taken on Film.

Big Bend Icefields Parkway

Looking down over the spectacular Icefields Parkway from the top of Big Bend. A beautiful U shaped valley formed during the last ice age. This is a long stretch of road and the cars for the light trails took several minutes to reach the end of the frame. Canadian Rockies, Banff National Park.

The Black Castle

Spooky outlook over a very old graveyard at an abandoned medieval Augustinian Prior’s Tower (middle of the frame), known as Black Castle, that was built in 1210. The medieval tower house, or belfry tower, to the right of frame dates from 1525 and is sometimes referred to as the White Castle. It was attached to the entrance of the Saint Mary's Church that was built in 1824. In front of the belfry tower is the abandoned remains of the ‘Lady's Chapel’. A Lady chapel or lady chapel is a traditional British term for a Christian chapel dedicated to ‘Our Lady’, the Blessed Virgin Mary. Inistioge, County Kilkenny, Ireland.

Lussier Hot Springs

There is nothing quite like a morning soak after a few days of strenuous backcountry hiking. On this occasion we had the Lussier Hot Springs all to ourselves. The top pool sits at around 43 deg C (109.4 F) which makes for quite the contrast for a plunge into the icy Lussier River running beside it. Whiteswan Lake Provincial Park, British Columbia, Canada.

Tengboche Monastery

The amazing site of the Tengboche Monastery nestled in the mountains at 3,867 metres (12,687 ft) presents itself like a timewarp from a different age. The Tengboche Monastery (Thyangboche Monastery) also known as Dawa Choling Gompa, sits in the area of Khumjung which is part of in the Khumbu region of eastern Nepal. The monastery is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery of the Nepalese Sherpa community and the ancient scriptures of Tibet refer to this valley along with Rowlang and Khanbalung valleys as sacred places. Tenzing Norgay, who was a local inhabitant of Tengboche village, was the first to reach the summit of Mount Everest with Sir Edmund Hillary on the British 1953 expedition.
