Given how much world media the US presidential election is getting I thought I would post one of Capitol Hill from a few weeks back. The United States Capitol is the legislative branch of the U.S. federal government. Located on the eastern end of the National Mall in Washington, D.C it sits across what is known Capitol Hill. Construction started in 1793, with the first session of congress being held in 1800. It was subsequently burnt down by the British in the war of 1812, with rebuilding ongoing until 1826. The original more modest dome was replaced with the current iconic version in renovations which were completed in 1863.
A lonely road cuts across an ancient Persian river valley surrounded by mountains near the Kalmand Protected Area located in Yazd Province, Iran. This arid area ranges from 1,200 to 3,000m in altitude and gets less than 200mm of rain but it thought to have been much wetter during the first half of the Holocene between 5,000 to 10,000 years ago.

This shot was taken just about a month before the 2004 Boxing Day or Indian Ocean tsunami wiped out everything on the island including most of the beautiful people there. Phi Phi Don is a rugged limestone island with development confined to a low sandbar isthmus separating two main wings of the island and did not stand a chance. The waves up to 30 metres (100 ft) high ended up taking the lives of approximately 280,000 people across 14 countries. Ko Phi Phi Don. Ko Phi Phi Archipelago, Andaman Sea, Thailand.
