South Bruny Coast

The treacherous south cost of Bruny Island as seen from the Bruny Island Lighthouse Three ships sank off the cost here in 1835, the 'Enchantress' with the loss of 17 lives, the convict transport George III, with the loss of 134 lives and the 'Wallace' without loss of life. As a result of these tragedies the Bruny Lighthouse was commissioned and completed in 1838. It is the second oldest extant lighthouse tower in Australia, as well as having the longest (158 years) history of being continuously manned. Love Life, Love Photography
